Ross Clark is one of the lead Academy coaches and also our Head of Coach Education. Ross is, therefore, integral in ensuring all our Academy coaching team work to the highest professional standards, following the New Forest Football Academy philosophy, underpinned by the AFC Bournemouth periodised season plan.
In his previous role Ross worked within the AFC Bournemouth Academy Foundation phase and also spent 2 seasons with MLS club the Vancouver Whitecaps, in the Canadian Academy High Performance League. As a result Ross has a wealth of coaching experience to draw upon and adopts a range of coaching styles to best meet the needs of his individual players.
Alongside his full-time role in the Academy, Ross is also about to undertake his Masters in Education, looking at new and innovative teaching and learning methodology, which he will be looking to implement and oversee across the Academy programme. Ross is always available at the end of Academy sessions to discuss how to create the most suitable learning environment for players, using the latest innovative coaching methodology, that will allow players to reach their potential.
Jesse is the Head of the Academy, overseeing every player’s journey from our youngest pre-Academy players, right the way through to our current U14 age group.
Jesse is a very experienced player and Coach having come through the AFC Bournemouth Academy ranks as a youngster, before moving into semi-professional football. An integral part of his role entails liaising with the AFC Bournemouth Academy Coaching staff and their Academy recruitment team on a day-to-day basis regarding player progression. Jesse also provides detailed assessments for players under review with AFC Bournemouth following each fixture. He works closely with our Academy coaching team regarding player progression, so that we can showcase players within fixtures at the most suitable time.
Having been a member of our Academy coaching team for the past 5 years Jesse has a detailed understanding of what is required to take players to the next level. He has seen several of his players progress into both AFC Bournemouth Academy and Southampton Academy. Jesse is eager to challenge his players to take their performances to the next level and reach their real potential.
Hugh is our Lead Development phase Coach and has coached across the Academy programme for the past 5 years.
He has a very strong playing and coaching background having played at Academy level for AFC Bournemouth.
Hugh has also had great success in semi-professional football over the past 4 seasons, alongside his coaching role within the Academy.
He played under AFC Bournemouth’s U18 Coach, Graham Mills for three seasons whilst studying at College and was an invaluable member of their National Cup winning squad.
Hugh has been integral in establishing our Academy pathway with AFC Bournemouth and supporting players in this progression, liaising with parents and Academy coaching staff to ensure a smooth transition.
Over the past 5 seasons Hugh has established an excellent network of club links and has been able to ensure that our players have the opportunities to showcase their talents at the highest level.
Niall has over 15 years coaching experience, having worked with Pre-Academy phase players right the way through to Youth team players looking to break into first team football. Niall coaches across several phases of our Academy, as well as our Futsal programme, supporting the Head of Academy and Lead phase Coaches with his knowledge and experience of professional Academy football. With this broad experience Niall works closely with the AFC Bournemouth Academy head of player recruitment when our players go on 6-week trial periods with AFC Bournemouth.
Alongside his Coaching background, Niall previously worked as a Football skills choreographer in Sports commercials with international brands such as Adidas, Nike, Pepsi and many more. In this role Niall worked with the likes of David Beckham, Ronaldo, Ronaldinho, Frank Lampard, Thierry Henry and many more famous football stars, co-ordinating football sequences and demonstrating specific skills on camera for the players to perform. Sam has a broad coaching and scouting background having previously worked as an Academy Scout with Brentford FC.
More recently Sam has been working as a regional talent scout for AFC Bournemouth, recruiting players for their ID Centres, Shadow Squads and Academy.
Alongside his roles in elite talent ID Sam has worked in a coaching capacity across several phases of the AFC Bournemouth Academy.
Sam is also the AFC Bournemouth ID Centre co-ordinator for their Blandford Centre.
Jamie is our Lead Pre-Academy phase Coach, working with our younger players as they enter our programme.
Having coached across the region for the past 5 years Jamie has had great success and was previously awarded Hampshire FA young Volunteer Coach of the Year.
Alongside his Coaching roles Jamie also recently graduated from University with a B.A. (Hons) in Coaching Studies, specialising in Football.
Jamie has conducted a range of research projects related to grass-roots football for Hampshire FA.
With strong organisational skills, a background in sales and a passion for travel, Mariska focusses on organising youth events and residential football camps to the New Forest.
Bruno Nunez is our highly experienced Portuguese Futsal Coach. Portugal are the current UEFA Futsal champions and so are one of the leading nations in the sport. Bruno has played Futsal for over 15 years and recently moved into a coaching role. Bruno has played Futsal to the highest level, against some of the World’s top Futsal players.
As a Futsal Goalkeeper Bruno has spent years developing his tactical knowledge. His vast experience of the game really comes through in his Futsal training sessions. AFC Bournemouth Academy place a great deal of emphasis on Futsal, with every player participating in at least one session per week as part of their Academy programme.
Futsal is the ideal platform to develop players for 11-a-side football and Bruno believes that every football player should have at least one season playing Futsal, as they do in Portugal, Brazil and Argentina, as it will transform their performances in football.
He believes Pep Guardiola is the ultimate ambassador for Futsal, as he develops his squads to follow the fundamental principles of Futsal, but on an 11-a-side pitch… the results are there for all to see.
With over 15 years Customer Service experience Cheryl oversees the day to day running of the New Forest Football Academy office. As well as keeping all the Coaches in check, Cheryl is happy to help with any Academy enquiries. Away from the Academy Cheryl enjoys horse riding and attending the local gym.
